Diffuser Hanging Lamp Showing Candle Covers at The Antique Lamp Co. Candle covers, also called candle sleeves, slide down over candle sockets to give a clean look to an any lamp. Candle sockets were first seen on lamps in the mid-1900's. The earliest candle covers were beeswax until  paper versions became more popular into the later half of the century. After the 1960's, plastic candle covers became standard.
