Although thought to have been invented by Louis Comfort Tiffany, Aurene glass was in fact one of the earliest color effects created by Frederick Carder for the Steuben Glass Works in Corning NY. It was first made as an iridescent gold-colored glass, but by 1904 Carder had developed blue Aurene glass as well. The word Aurene is derived from the chemical symbol for gold and the word sheen.
These hand made art glass shades with
rib optic and iridescent finish, are made by American glass artists using
the same techniques as the early masters at Tiffany, Quezal, & Steuben. Their deep, rich color and iridescence is outstanding!
Each of these shades have some slight differentials in color from those pictured.
When ordering sets, we will try to match
them to each other as closely as possible.
